Not only did he learn to play the piano by the young age of 4 he was also classically trained by his teenage years. He was the first african american who had a his own television show ( the Nat king cole show). The show was widely loved by not only blacks but also whites which was rare for this time. On March 17, 1919 in Montgomery, Alabama Nathaniel Adams Coles was born. His proud parents were Edward and Perlina Coles. Edward was a Baptist pastor and Perlina was the church choir director who also taught him how to play piano.
