Developing your Professional Identity
The development of a professional identity of a MHC is important as it is with other specializations as well. The identity of a professional counselor has been conceptualized as integrating training alongside the personal attributes in the professional field. (Nugent & Jones,2009) As with any career development, developing your professional identity will need to consider several factors to consider. The career you choose should be one that you see yourself doing for a very long period, if not until you retire. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the steps to become a professional counselor in the MHC specialization, the philosophy of counseling and how one may obtain licensure and certification.
Differences in Two Counseling Specializations
The objective of mental health counseling is to evaluate, assess, treat, possibly modify or adjust a disability or behavioral disorder, as well as character development, emotional concern or relationship by using verbal or behavioral methods.

A recent development is to offer mobile care for mental health clients. This meaning that there would be an app available for the client to use to receive mental health counseling services. There are of course several positive attributes about this development as well as a few negative attributes. The positive or the pros are the convenience the app would offer, the resource would be at the tip of their fingers shall they need to use the resource. The cost of service would be lower than traditionally seen in the mental health counseling field. Another pro would be the consistency of treatment and would offer the same treatment program to all clients.
