Elie Wiesel’s Night teaches about the Holocaust from the perspective of a Jewish boy named Eliezer. Reading and analyzing Night has conveyed points about the Holocaust that differ from topics that I have studied in the past. The main point of my analyzation of Night is the dehumanization of the Nazis’ victims, mainly in concentration camps. Many past Holocaust books and movies that I have studied focus more on the events that happen before the concentration camps, but Night takes place almost entirely in the camps. In the train, food is thrown into the cars by people in the passing towns who then watches as the starving prisoners fought and killed each other to get food. Throughout this passage, the audience gains knowledge of young Elie Wiesel’s thoughts. Suspense builds up as the Elie began to list out his thoughts starting with, “The last night at home.” This reflection leads to “the last night in the ghetto,” then, “the last night in the cattle car” and finally ends in, “the last night in Buna” (Wiesel 83). The repetitive use of the phrase, “The last night,” creates a sense of uncertainty for the reader as it makes one question how much more suffering Elie Wiesel must take to gain freedom.…

The author, Eliezer Wiesel is an actual survivor of the Holocaust, and he endured the suffering of living in the Auschwitz labour camps. This book is a first hand memoir of the horrors and painful experiences Elie Wiesel had endured when he was only fifteen years old. Throughout the book, Elie describes his struggle to keep his faith in God, as he is unable to believe that a loving God could allow horrible things happen to his “chosen” people.
