In the story “A&P”, the author John Updike shows the readers three young ladies in a supermarket in a 2 piece bathing suit. The owner of the supermarket tells the young ladies they are not allowed in the store dress in bathing suit. The owner, Mr. Lengel, want customer to come in the store with clothes that do not show a lot of skin. In this time of life people think that women should not show off their body off to the world.

He focus his attention on the ladies instead of his job. Sammy do not like his job, but he do it because his parents want him to have a job.
