Additionally, the narrator stated, “...my brain reeled as I saw the mighty walls rushing asunder- there was long tumultuous shouting sound like the voice of a thousand waters.” (Poe 430). This quote can be interpreted as the walls of the home falling like a waterfall, or stream. This could also mean the Usher family tree was cracking and falling apart, considering at the end of the story, both Madeline and Roderick died.

Many of the preceding quotes refer to the physical being of the House of Usher. On the contrary, a deeper meaning can be found. The entire situation can be compared to the connection between Madeline and Roderick. They represent the body and the mind. With out one of them, the other simply cannot exist.
