During the war, the Japanese thought they sunk the Enterprise 3 time, however in reality the Enterprise never sunk. One of the time was a completely mistaken, the Japanese navy thought in the Battle of Midway they sunk both the Enterprise and Yorktown. Instead, the Yorktown never was heavily damaged at the first attack, but never sunk. It took the Japanese a second air attack to finally sink the Yorktown. The second time they thought they sunk the Enterprise was in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands hit twice by dive bombs by Japanese dive bombers which caused the ship to be serious damaged to the point that the ship almost sank that day (Swopes). Luckily, the US Navy was able to tow the ship back to Pearl Harbor for repair. The third time was in April 11, 1944 in the battle in Okinawa where a kamikaze plane crashed onto the deck of the USS Enterprise.
