Today in this world unfortunately, the importance of play in early education can often be undervalued in early childhood programs. I believe that using a curriculum with play is so very important. It’s really a healthy part of a child’s development. Play can huge impact on development is so many areas, like a child social skills, language skills, and cognitive development. As children age and develop, their basic speech becomes more complex. Piaget proposed that children proceed through four stages based on maturation and experience. Vygotsky and Piaget have similarities between their two theories of cognitive development. There are also several differences in both theories. I would have to agree with Vygotsky that children are involved in their own development as they provide response to teachers about what they are doing and learning this does show them understanding. Dramatic play is a great learning environment for early learners this area can teach them about daily life skills, behaviors with others and using imagination. For example, restaurants have menus and order pads, kitchen, play food, and café set up with tables, chairs and so on. This exposure to a wide range of texts, colors, helps children differentiate text features. Children tend to format a shopping list differently from the way they format a map. Dramatic play builds comprehension by allowing children to act out familiar stories.
The block area has to be one of the best centers for any early learner. Preschool block area should be filed with basket of zoo animals or farm animals. These props inspire children to build animal pens and adding in some tractors to make a farm. Some other great items for a block area would be cars, trees road signs, road mats, people, trucks and patterning cards or pictures of structures to build. Most of these items give the children to do open-ended play while they explore and create roads and while make bridges. Adding pictures of bridges, what roads or maps look like?
