This shows how horrible the system really is for employees, they were basically treated as slaves. Another man explained how the saying “do more with less” was being used by Walmart and their meaning was associates do more and the amount they are going to get paid is less. Walmart has had many class action law suits against them, currently 31 Walmart faces court cases in 31 different states for wage and hour abuses potentially involving hundreds of thousands of workers because of the amount of unpaid overtime they cheated employees out of throughout the years. It is estimated that in 2005 Walmart employees in Texas were cheated out of a hundred and fifty million dollars. Walmart uses state programs as their health care, the less they pay them the less they have to give them. When staff members asked management about better health insurance many often replied with “there are programs out there, go use your tax payer’s dollars”. It was shown that in Florida they have more employees than families eligible for welfare than any other company. Even in 2005 it was recorded that in Connecticut alone there were 824 Walmart workers that have children enrolled in a state health care program. When a family uses Walmart as a health care plan they can not afford to live decently even as a full time employee. Although it may be marked as the company having 74% of employees as full time, they consider full time employment to be twenty-eight hours a week to be full time which works out to a stating wage under 12,000 a year.
