In this critical analysis, I will examine and recognize the theoretical basis of the ethical arguments in the articles “ROB Ranks Wal-Mart Among Canada’s Best Employers” and “The Cost of Walmartization”.
Article 1; ROB Ranks Wal-Mart Among Canada’s Best Employers
In this article, Walmart seems to have a contractarian ethical approach which comes into play when Walmart promotes diversity. As a result, employers and employees must agree to a theoretical social contact to order to work with one another, in this case to make an income. There is also some Feminist ethics applied to Walmart as the percentage of in-store female mangers has doubled since 2004 to 40% and females hold more than 30% of senor executive roles (McLachlan, pg.288). …show more content…
Consider credibility, facts and statistics, source of information and whether the approach they give balance or one sided or whether their argument contains logical fallacies
The article I that I found more convincing is the Article 2 which was with regards to ‘The Cost of Walmartization’. I choose this article as it is written by the ETC Group which works to address the socioeconomic and ecological issues surrounding new technologies that could have an impact on the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people. As a result, all the information and statistic provided is factual.
Conclusion
I am not an apologist for Wal-Mart and I also don’t fully agree with either apologist writer. I understand and agree that like any other business that Walmart is not perfect and has shortcomings. But, I don't think people this should guide and aid people to argue that it is unethical to shop at Wal-Mart or that anyone who shops at Wal-Mart is unethical. Individual need to closely examine and rely on their personal ethics based on their morals in terms of their concept of right and wrong (McLachlan, pg,11), their values in terms of critical important principles and their respective belief system in terms of their conscious conviction. In addition, based on my personal ethics, the argument for consequence does not appeal to me because I view the principle the principle of intention more important as it is slightly more complex term of deontology
