When you hear the name Walt Disney you probably think about movies, tv shows, and maybe a certain mouse. Walt Disney brought his limitless imagination to the hearts and minds of millions worldwide, he entertained through characters showed cased in cartoons, films, television and at Disney theme parks.
Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois. After Walt’s birth, his parents, Elias Disney and Flora Disney moved their family to Marceline, Missouri. While growing up there, young Walt developed a love for nature and wildlife. He would often sketch plants and animals he saw around him. So in 1953, he had the Standford Research Institute conduct a survey for a 100-acre site. He needed space to build waterfalls, mountains, and more; he would have flying-elephants and talking flowers, and much more all part of a magic kingdom he called Disneyland.

On July 18, 1955, Walt opened Disneyland to the public with an entrance fee of $1 and individual tickets for the rest of the rides cost .10 to .35 cents each. Also Walt and his staff thought by limiting daily attendance to 20,000 it would avoid overcrowding the park (O’Hagen 3-4).
On December 15, 1966 Walt Disney unfortunately died from lung cancer. Despite all the success that he achieved in his life, Walt still would remark “I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.”
Disney’s company continues to grow even after his death. Today, the Walt Disney Company has theme parks in many different places; the company is now a multibillion- dollar empire (“Walt Disney”
