Walt Disney and The Mouse If one were to say “The Happiest Place on Earth”, I believe that a majority of us would automatically think Disneyland. Disneyland is a place where a kid can be a kid, even if you are an adult. When you think of Disneyland, one is filled with happy memories of fun with your family and getting to meet the characters one would only see on screen.

Disney used this opportunity to create a Mickey Mouse Club television show. “Debuting in 1955, the Mickey Mouse Club quickly became a staple in the lives of pre-teens who watched the show every afternoon after school and before dinner” (Pendergast). There were many young actors on the show, as young as the age of 16. The show also consisted of theme days, so the viewers wouldn’t get bored. “Mondays were Fun with Music Day; Tuesdays were Guest Star Day; Wednesdays were Anything Can Happen Day; Thursdays were Circus Day; and Fridays were Talent Round-Up Day” (Pendergast). He was a famous, successful man who seemed to have it all. Although, he didn’t want to just stop at the screen. He wanted people to be able to feel what it would be like to be in the cartoons, to meet the characters. So, in 1952, Disney began making plans for a family-friendly amusement park.
Disney and a group of animators began designing a theme park based on imagination and storytelling of his popular films. He created WED Enterprises, standing for Walter Elias Disney, of course. This group was responsible for all the creative ideas and designs that made up each part of their theme park. And after many years of hard work, WED Enterprises finally opened Disneyland in California in 1955. It had a slow start at first, but Disneyland quickly became the hotspot for all families to have a good time.
