The person that I researched and wrote about for my book report is Edwin, or “Ed”, Catmull, the co-founder and president of Pixar Animation Studios. I have read several reviews regarding Catmull’s leadership tactics and how he makes it clear how the principles that he believes in, creativity and innovation, should be viewed as starting points rather than ends to be achieved in leadership positions. That is why the book is entitled, simply, “Creativity, Inc.: Overcoming the Unseen Forces That Stand in the Way of True Inspiration”, published by Random House in April of 2014 with an ISBN of 978-0-8129-9301-1 . The title of Catmull’s book ironically corresponds with one of Pixar’s great movies, “Monster’s, Inc.”. There are many titles out there that embrace the subject of creative leadership and innovative leadership, so why Catmull’s book for connecting our class to my report? I believe that Edwin Catmull, president of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, is a leader that is unique and interesting, and obviously one that is creative and innovative when it comes to his occupation and leadership. Besides leading these companies, he has also received many awards for his own work. He was awarded the Gordon E. Sawyer award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his lifetime contributions to computer graphics used in the motion picture industry. This award shows that he is not only creative and innovative in his leadership, but also his own hands on work. He has also received awards in the fields of science and engineering.
