The War Between States known as the “American Civil War” was a war that lasted to 1861-1865, when the first battle of the war started in virginia, Lincoln stated the war was about “preserving the union” but many had their opinions especially because we were fighting our own .Unfortunately for the southerners they did not win fore it was the beginning some people wouldn't live to see and the end for most.Today people still argue what caused the civil war 157 years ago.People often consider slavery being the main problem that caused the civil war, due to such power slavery caused the federal government to have over states when they decided not as one to move past African Americans being servitude. After the second Great Awakening majority of the people wanted to change along with their religions, but doing so they wanted to leave certain things behind like slaves.Unlike northerners this wouldn't really affect the economy like southerners up north were factories and manufactured goods where down south they only had crops and imported slaves from africa. In Lincoln and douglas debates Lincoln said “A house divided against itself cannot stand” now he wasn't on african americans side he was just doing what was best even though he still aloud slaves in some states this was called the Emancipation proclamation some say he only issued the proclamation only to shift the focus of the war from union to slavery to prevent the british from interfering.Also many people from north and south had they reason joining the civil war like abolitionist, who thought the war was a punishment from god for the sins of slavery and allowing the union who pride themselves about freedom to allowing it into becoming new territories. the ideal of the union also believed in serving as a beacon for individual liberty and religious freedom while at the same time southerners use numerous of bible passes to promote and defend the institute of slavery, it was a moral and spiritual backbone to southerners society.Some religious leader led troops into combat, priest father william corby in 1863 in the battle of gettysburg spoke to the troops before they was deployed into battle he even prayed over the ones who were dying giving them forgiveness for his sins
