In the article What factors facilitate teacher skill, teacher morale, and perceived student learning in technology-using classrooms, researchers Amy L. Baylora and Donn Ritchie conducted a quantitative study that investigated how technology in classrooms effects student’s planning, leadership, curriculum alignment, professional development and technology use. The study also predicted whether teacher’s openness to change plays a role on their technology competency and their ability to incorporate technology in their curriculum effectively. The main problem that Baylora and Ritchie focused on was understanding how technology heightens student learning. Over the past few years, numerous articles have provided evidence of positive changes educational technology has on students (Baylora & Ritchie, 2001). Most students, especially the younger generation, are becoming more tech-savvy, even textbooks offer a variety of computerized teaching supplements (Daniels,2006). Access to technology in the classroom can easily transform a passive learning environment to an active learning environment. In STEM education, utilizing technology in the classroom can increase student’s interest in science and math, and also encourage students to be independent learners. STEM educators can incorporate technology in their classroom by creating a class webpage that post announcements, class photos, learning techniques and classroom reminders. Educators can also use online grading system, share documents through google shared documents, communicate with students via email, and present information and assign graded assignments using multimedia presentations
