Throughout Fitzgerald life he has experienced a lot of heartbreak. As a result , he tends to have the characters in his writings tend to become heartbroken or find love. Fitzgerald said “ Love is for the dusk…” (Line 34) this quote reveals after all he went through with Eleanor he doesn’t regret any of it. You know what they say everything happens for a reason. Another line in the poem that relates to Fitzgerald current love lost is “ With your old hopes…” ( Line 17) this is him saying he’s completely over her. She wants to reunite after failing several times and have the love they once shared. He doesn’t want to let her go but he knows it’s what best , he can’t afford to be hurt again. Lastly , it seems as if Fitzgerald has came to his senses because in the quote he says “ They teach me, they tear me” ( Line 17) although he is in pain and he finally figured out that she was the reason why. At the end of the day , he learned that people get placed in your life for a reason they are either a blessing or a lesson. In this case , we can see that she was a lesson.
