Bill O’Reilly is a tv talk show host for Fox News. He is a journalist by trade and at one time he was a high school history teacher. Bill O’Reilly has also authored or coauthored many books including the one we are about to discuss. Killing Lincoln was written as if you are looking through the character’s eyes. Bill O’Reilly was a high school history teacher and even admits in the forward of the book Killing Lincoln he was surprised at all the conspiracies when they started writing the book. Bill O’Reilly had a co-author Martin Dugard. He and Bill O’Reilly have written several books together. .Martin Dugard is a historian as well as a New York Times Best selling author. This book is a must read for students to grasp the assassination of a president and how it has affected us even today. Most people look to Abraham Lincoln as being a martyr while others view him as a man that sacrificed 620,000 lives to collect taxes and save northern manufacturing over southern slaves. "In this time when we 're struggling for leadership--and whether you 're a Republican or a Democrat, you know that we are struggling with leadership in America--we need to go back to a guy like Abraham Lincoln and understand what made him great," O 'Reilly says. (56-59) The book Killing Lincoln has several strong points in that it is pretty accurate and does give a pretty detailed accounting of President Lincolns last days. The telling of the way things progressed from character to character seemed to work with thw writing style of the co-authors. The book also has a few weak points as it seemed to skip around a little with back and forth on the dates of the way the author told about the storylines of the
