What Is Music According To Dr. Andrew Weil's Spontaneous Happiness

While doing my own brain exploration, I was intrigued by how music can have a tremendous effect on a person’s life. It affects multiple parts of the brain that control our different functions, as well as the different moods we experience. There is a part of the brain that gets a signal from our ears allowing us to hear the music. At the same time, our nervous system allows the part of the brain that senses touch to help us feel the rhythm of the beat. This is especially important for the hearing impaired. Although they are not able to hear the music, they can still enjoy it through touch. Whichever way allows you to feel the music, they both are linked at the brain and can trigger the same moods and reactions.

I personally love to dance, and I try to dance as often as I am able to. I found that there was a link between dancing and my upbeat personality, so I chose to research it. Whether a person chooses to dance because they are happy or they are happy because they are dancing, there is a constant link between the two. I came across an online article entitled ‘Dancing Makes You Happier And Smarter’, where the author details what they learned for Dr. Andrew Weil’s book ‘Spontaneous Happiness’. Dr. Weil explains that dancing gives you an endorphin boost, in which case endorphins are neurotransmitters that can cause excitement. He also explains that it can boost a person’s self esteem when they learn new dance moves or possess exceptional dancing skills that is applauded by others. I, for one can attest to that, because I tend to feel more energetic and prideful when people compliment my dancing. The Article goes on to describe other effects that music and dancing have on a person, but the all generally lead to happiness. For me, happiness is the most important feeling, because it is a positive mind state which can lead to positive results in our day to day
