There are many examples of how Golding shows support of man being evil and destined to remain wicked. Jack is an example of this and he displays his horrific actions throughout the book. The book states, “I cut the pig’s throat,” “There was lashings of blood,” said Jack, laughing and shuddering, “you should have seen it.” Here, Jack enjoys killing innocent animals and is becoming obsessed with hunting. Another example is when his hunting group eventually joins and they nearly kill Robert. The spear symbolically represents violence and the boys use it for savagery. The spears were never made to be good and a boy named Roger “found a lodgment for his point and began to push till he was leaning his whole weight.” The pig here is being tortured by the spear and the “terrified screaming became a high-pitched scream.” The boys continue their fate to kill innocent animals and stay this way. The boys also used these spears not only to kill animals, but to kill their own kind. It states, “The sticks fell and the mouth of the new circle crunched and screamed.” The boys surround a boy named Simon and start to stab him with the spears until he fell to is knees and eventually die.
