In like manner, the poem’s speaker lets us know the story of people who are or were prisoners about their experience of being in jail, when following the wrong pathway and having to deal with the consequences of their actions during difficult moments in life. Additionally, when someone gives you the lecture on what they have experienced it makes people think about what is better for them. To show on lines 32-35 it says, “...deeper into dangerous regions, and found so many parts of myself, who taught me water is not everything, and gave me new eyes to see through walls, when they spoke, sunlight came out of their mouths…”. This determines that when a person talks from their heart to explain to the people how painful it is going through the wrong path and it's not easy. What people don’t understand is that the lecture or speech is from what other people have experienced and you keep denying it that it's not going to happen until it does.
Furthermore, the main purpose of this poem is, even though life can be hard sometimes you can still find beauty and happiness at the end if you have hope. Including, when you feel like giving up on life because people have taken that lively light of your life.
