The sight of death is forever trapped within my mind. Sometimes I feel the urge to go up top, but I remember the barbed wire that restricts us from entering No Man’s Land. No Man’s Land is the dangerous place between trenches that surely means death for those that set foot there.
The tactics are very strange. Both lines just hold in the trenches until reinforcements show up or they think of a better weapon to use. The wretched trenches. Filled with mucky water and rats. I don’t want to be in these trenches for another minute. I fear madness will take over my mind. If that were to happen, I will surely die. I must remain focused on what it is I am doing.
Many of the men fear the same thing. Death. If one dies, whether it be starvation or being shot, the man beside them would desperately pray to survive.
