September 15th begins the time period deemed as Hispanic Heritage Month. This time was designated because it was the day that several Central and South American countries won their independence. Therefore, this is the perfect time to discuss the importance of Hispanics in America. I firmly believe that all lives matter, no matter what race or creed. Therefore, I believe Hispanic lives matter the same as white, black, Asian or any other group. I believe that discrimination is the result of ignorance and should not be tolerated. Especially in the political atmosphere of the upcoming Presidential election, I do feel it is necessary to speak about the positive influences that Hispanics have in the United States. They pay taxes and buy products such as food and clothing. In many areas, the influx of Hispanic immigrants has even revitalized lagging housing markets. Hispanics also work in all areas of the United States labor force such as agriculture, manufacturing, banking and service industries. I believe it is sad that we, as Americans, even have to discuss why Hispanic lives matter. It is evident to me that all humans are created equal. It is society that tries to wrongly separate us by race, social class, gender or religious affiliation. Hopefully, we as a society are starting to change our perspective. I am happy to celebrate Hispanic culture and discuss the positive influences they have had in our country. The Hispanic population has a strong voice in our country and will not be silenced.
