In the novel “of Mice and Men“, by John Steinbeck, Lenny Small and George Milton worked on a farm a few miles south of Soledad, off of the Salinas river, where the story takes place. Lenny is considered a good friend to George because he treats George with respect, he trusts George, and he would give anything to help him.
Lennie is a good friend to George because he treats him with respect. To start, George can just mess with Lennie because he can’t think for himself. George could steal Lennie’s fifty dollars at the end of every month and just say that he lost it but instead he stays honest with Lennie and for that reason, he Trusts George greatly. Next, everything that George has told Lennie has either been true, or a lie to help him. Lennie understands that George only wants to help him and has no reason not to trust him. “You never had none, you crazy bastard. I got both of em’ here. Lennie trusts George and that’s why he is a good friend.
Lennie is an amazing friend to George and would do anything to help him or make him happy. Firstly, Lennie would always put George first, no matter the consequences. For example, during the novel, although Lennie loves ketchup on his beans, he says “I wouldn’t eat none, George. I’d leave it all for you, you could cover your beans with it and I wouldn’t touch none of it” (pg 12). This quote shows that Lennie would od anything to help George or make him happy. Lennie clearly loves ketchup on his beans but would sacrifice that ketchup for George to not be upset with him.
