Most children and adults in gangs end up dying young. After all, two of Ponyboy's fellow gang members recently died. One died being shot by police after robbing a store. Ponyboy's life is constantly in danger while living with his brothers. While the point can be seen that Ponyboy should remain with his current caretakers, he should go to a foster home. This is because there will most likely be good influences, Ponyboy will be able to break bad habits such as smoking and he will have a better chance of living. Although Ponyboy may end up living far away from his brothers, they will probably be able to visit. Ponyboy will be better off going to a new home. Ponyboy Curtis needs actual parents. His brothers are clearly not efficient caretakers since he has run away from them before. He was also given a gun, and he smokes cigarettes, according to his theme.
