Every day 7,000 high school students dropout of school which comes to a roughly 1.3 million students every year. The ramifications for dropping out of school stay with a person their entire life. Choosing to not complete high school results in lower chances of employment, decreased yearly earnings,and increased chance of being incarcerated.

Reading books improves literacy rates and prevents dropouts. “As for the girl, there was a sudden desire to read it that she didn't even attempt to understand. On some level, perhaps she wanted to make sure her brother was buried right. Whatever the reason, her hunger to read that book was as intense as any ten-year-old human could experience.” This is from the Book Thief by Markus Zusak, a quote about Liesel and her desire to read.
