Despite this, I’ve had a little over a decade to consider everything there is to consider! My eldest sister attended Camp Cheerio one year, and I interrogated her immediately upon her return - from what she described, I and the rest of my family thought I would do very well at a residential camp! Of course I can’t know for certain how I’d react, but looking at experiences away from my family has helped me form an idea. A year or so back, I spent a week in Disney World with a family I didn’t know very well at all. I mostly took care of myself on the trip, although they paid for food and housing (thankfully!). On my one and only vacation last summer, I got the privilege on going to my first Younglife camp. The camp name was Carolina Point in Brevard, North Carolina. At the camp they had many activities: swimming, go-carting, disc golf, mountain biking, zip-lining, paddling boarding, and hiking. My favorite part about this trip was the day we took a whole camp trip to hike the nearby mountain. At the camp they had some kids with disabilities that couldn’t necessarily get up the mountain by themselves.…

Your peripheral vision is gone—there’s complete focus, then a silence so muted that all you know is the feeling of your heart beating. Then, as you stand there motionless, you feel the adrenaline. I mean really feel it—a syrup coursing through your veins, yet not a syrup as it moves faster than blood. You know when it hits your heart because it starts beating faster, faster, faster, and then the feeling is gone. Then everything is gone—emotions, breath, sensation……

I spent six of my summers growing up at an all girls camp called Wavus. Wavus is a wilderness tripping camp in Maine based out of my hometown, Jefferson. Living in Jefferson, I did not obtain a great deal of exposure to other people from the country, let alone other parts of the world. When I went to Wavus I was put in a cabin with girls from all over the United States and even one from Belgium. Having to live with these girls for a month each summer enabled me to become close friends with them and learn about their lives.…

The trip to a camping site in the middle of a Pennsylvania forest- a trip I would never forget- lead me to the discovery of myself and my transition into adulthood. This trip was through the summer camp I have attended for now eleven years; Liberty Lake Day Camp located in Columbus, New Jersey, is my second home. I grew up in this camp, and when I finally reached the age to become a L.I.T, a leader in training, I was eager to undergo the program with my friends I always attended camp with. This trip was a reward to all the hard work we do as L.I.Ts. Little did I know the annual L.I.T trip to the camping site would be life changing.…

For the past 6 years of my life, I have gone to a sleepaway camp in Burnet, TX called Camp Longhorn Inks Lake. There are many enjoyable traditions at Camp Longhorn. Some of the\ traditions are the mile swim, campfire lighter, early bird, fun day, frog girl day, and marine/marina mud. Although these traditions are great fun, but none of them can compare to the most memorable tradition at Camp Longhorn, Church Mountain. Church Mountain is my favorite tradition at Camp Longhorn and my life has been infinitely changed by the experiences I have had up there.…

The next time I attended a camp at CRG it was just me and my two other siblings. My parents and Anthony were left at home. This time, when I stepped onto the campsite, there was no snow and it was warm enough to wear shorts and a t-shirt, but I was nervous to be attending Sibling Camp for the very first time. Without Holland, who was also attending the camp, it would have taken longer to break away from my shyness. She had already known most of the kids our age…
