Why I Want To Go To College

Improved Essays
Having had to deal with a lot of turmoil in my life, especially within the last 6 years, with my parents passing within 18 months of each other. I recently decided to take my life back. College classes are a giant leap forward. I have my short paper, in a draft form started. I took a look inside myself to remember “what I wanted to do/be when I grew up?” Asking myself; Why 30+ years after dropping out of High School did I decide to go to college? Why this particular course and is this the right choice for me? The first thing that comes to mind is family, followed by career choice, both of these will keep me motivated throughout my coursework. Throughout the course I have been able to take notes, highlighting things with each self-assessment.

It was a slow paced year where pressures such as ACT and SAT preparation, applying for colleges, and deciding your career path seemed so far away. With so many high hopes, but somehow through life I became distracted and lost focus.…

Why Go to College? Jiddu Krishnamurti once wrote, “There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from that moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning.” People go to college to get a direction for life.…

I have chosen to apply to the University of Central Florida because it will provide great opportunities out of school and while I’m still in school. Another reason I have chosen to apply is because it is far enough away from home to where I can gain my independence and find who I am without my parents around and because it is close enough to where in the event of an emergency I can still be home fairly quickly. In my life there has been multiple obstacles/bumps in the road in both my academic and personal life. Staring with my academic obstacles, both my elementary and middle school were not the best and left me with many gaps in my education, such as in math and science.…

When I was younger, thinking of college was fun and exciting, because I didn’t actually know about the overall stress that would come from the process of searching for the best fit. I am a first generation high school graduate and college attendee. Despite my parent’s lack of educational and financial stability, they do everything in their power to support my education. However, my parents are foreign to America’s educational system and as a result I do not receive much academic guidance from them. My parents have taught me to work hard for what I want, to understand that there is a difference between failing and giving up, and most importantly, to be humble and grateful for everything that I have. I am proud to be a Hispanic- American that has the opportunity to fully indulge myself in both the Hispanic and American cultures.…

My senior year of high school was relaxing at first as I didn’t have any real plans for my future. I was completely clueless about what I wanted to do, academically and professionally, post high school graduation. When I looked at my past for help I saw a pre-teen adolescent, a girl with eyes too big for her face, belting vocals into the bathroom mirror for she thought she could perform in a band someday. As I looked further back, I saw a six-year-old child who dreamed of becoming a dancer— who twirled for her mother every chance she had. Yet, it was during my senior year in high school when certain, unfortunate, circumstances created a pathway to a future that I would have never otherwise pursued.…

When we were younger, we all pondered about going to college.
