The cave was discover on the eighteenth of December, Nineteen Ninety Four. The cave was accidently discovered when Jean-Marie Chauvet and his two other speleologists friends were wondering around the Ardèche Valley, in southern France, when they suddenly came upon and opening in the rock. They continued to investigate using their speleology equipment. On December twenty ninth, nineteen ninety four the Government of France and the ministry of culture led the first government funded expedition in to the cave. She is an author of over fifty books and she is a university academic. She has studied the cave and even written about it. She says that,” the cave is a literally fundamental experience…” Another person whose helped with the studying of the cave is Giuseppe Penone. He is a longtime member of the Arte Povera Movement and an internationally renowned artist. He has looked at the paintings and even drawn comparisons to the Sistine Chapel and Giotto’s Chapel in Padua.
The Cave of Chauvet is an incredible discovery. The art painted inside is comparable, in my opinion, to the artwork of many great artists. I found it extremely remarkable that the artwork could remain perfectly preserved and unharmed for over thirty thousand year. It is also incredible that the humans that painted the artwork could draw so beautifully even though they barely had any materials and technologies. Personally, I hope that one-day I will be able to visit the cave and get to experience is beautifulness and historical
