First, long term health is where miners suffer from medical problems caused by working in mines. For example, COPD and black lung disease are two common health issues among miners. Health problems are at a higher risk when strip mining techniques are used. So the entire surrounding community is at a higher risk of health problems.
Then, I think it is not worth the risk because of the site accidents. The potential accidents while working in a mine include cave-ins, poisonous gas releases, explosions, and flooding. Each day there is a possibility that a miner will have an accident each day that he goes to work. In 2010 33 Chilean coal miners were trapped almost nearly half a mile underground for 69 days. To create energy, coal must be burned, so it creates large amounts of carbon emissions which causes global warming. Global warming is actually wreaking havoc on countless aspects of our planet, Also the use of coal is linked to the mounting problem of global warming.
