Soccer and its popularity Originated in England and brought to the Americas, soccer has become a sport that is recognized around the world. Although the Chinese claim that they have been playing the sport way before anyone else, the sport became official in England in the mid-nineteenth century. Therefore England being fully credited for the rise of the sport caused a dispute. When soccer was brought to the Americas it for sure had competition with other sports such as football which is well known in the U.S. Soccer till this day in America will not be as popular as it is outside the United States. Soccer being so called originated in England gave the name “football”, but the word “soccer” is actually a British term that came from the …show more content…
The United States mostly focuses on Baseball, American Football, and Basketball. But fortunately soccer is a growing sport in the U.S. Soccer has gained plenty of fans in America over the years, through the women's national team winning the world cup and the U.S. participating in nine world cups and hosting one. There are plenty of reasons one could argue about soccer not being as popular as it is in other countries, reasons such as riots, brutality, flopping, objectivity, not enough scoring, the lack of using hands, tying, and americans aren't the best at it. Riots because of the fact that many soccer fans tend to begin riots against the rivals teams. “There isn't enough action” I have heard this phrase plenty of times when I ask people who play or are fans of American Football and the fact is that there isn't as much violence in soccer as there is in American football or the NFL, therefore people tend to call soccer “boring”. In soccer there are some games where there will be very little scoring or sometimes no scoring at all and Americans tend to like to see more “action”, but soccer is a sport that is played at a very fast pace, but like some of us latinos say “if the ball doesn't want to go in then it wont go in.” Football is played with our feet and many of American sports involve hands such as basketball, baseball, American football. As I mentioned sometimes there will be no scoring …show more content…
as it is in places like Europe and South America, soccer has made its way to Hawaii where there are many leagues, colleges, high schools, and associations that play it. There are soccer associations in Hawaii such as AYSO and HYSA in which my friends and I participate in. HYSA is the state's largest soccer organization, it was founded more than thirty years ago, it is also a non profit organization and its true purpose is to benefit the children of Hawaii. HYSA also gives the opportunity for its most promising players to be able to represent the state at a regional and national level. Some players have even got to play professionally. "About HYSA." Hawaii Youth Soccer Association. 2015. Web. 10 Nov. 2015. HYSA has plenty of teams within its association that have gained national recognition, a recognized team is Rush, a team for which my friends play for and they have been on trips to other states to play soccer games and tournaments. I have played for AYSO for five seasons and it has helped me tremendously in various ways like improving my skills, getting me in shape, making new friends, and learning new tactics. Soccer is a growing sport that if HYSA, AYSO, and high school, and colleges keep promoting soccer and keep training players eventually some will make it to the big leagues and help U.S. gain more recognition for soccer and this will also help motivate other athletes to play

I started my soccer career, if you could call it that, as a carefree kindergartener. Soccer at the time was just the thing that preceeded the real event, the postgame snack that would traditionally consist of cupcakes or Oreos and a juice box or occasionally the god-awful apple from a health conscious mother. So how is it that this sport would grow to become one of my greatest sources of joy and pride? This pride I speak of has not come from any particular standout skill; I am by no means a soccer maestro, in fact I am no stranger to the bench. Yet my time playing soccer has brought about a satisfaction that is unrivaled by any of my other various enterprises.…
