George Washington owned slaves, should that mean that we, as a nation, should not honor him? There is a big controversy about whether or not to destroy monuments or rename landmarks that are in honoring famous people from our history because they owned slaves or did something bad. In the United States, people should not eliminate landmarks and historical figures, regardless of any wrong doings they have committed in the past. A good example of not renaming a landmark is the potential renaming of George Washington University.…
Published in 2014, William Beaver wrote “The Case Against College Revisited” for the journal, College and University. Beaver argues that the tradition of attending college or university may not be for everyone. He argues that the labor market, student debt, and the human capital may hold evidence as to why some shouldn’t attend college.…
When I visited George Washington my sophomore year of high school, I instantly knew that your school is where I wanted to go for college. It just wasn't like any of the other colleges that I had seen before, and for that matter it was unlike any I have seen since. I saw that GW is in a beautiful location and that its presence in the capitol greatly enhances both its value and the city’s around it. I really liked walking around the campus, as it was extremely vibrant. I saw that safety is also important, and the combination of security that holds jurisdiction in this area is extremely reassuring.…
Brigham Young University. Without question. It is the school that I have planned and dreamed of attending since I learned about it. A school that combines an excellent education that prepares your for success in this life as well as a religious education that prepares you for the eternities. Such an institution and community is where I would be honored and blessed to attend.…
The reason that I chose to attend Marywood had more to do with simple education. There were many things about the school that I found attractive, not least of which was its strong adherence to a set of values. I have always been a very driven person, especially when it comes to my goals and interests. While not every one of the core values applies to me and my goals, the ones that do align strongly with both the interests that I have, and the places that I see myself going later in life. The most important goal to me is excellence.…
Choosing the right college was extremely difficult when I was a senior in high school; the only factor I was looking into for my decision-making process was a close kit college. Therefore, I began touring multiple small universities, which brought me to Gwynedd Mercy University. One particular moment really drew me into Gwynedd was when I was with my tour guide. As the tour went on, I watched as she greeted everyone she passed, and the overall friendly and familial nature of the students and the campus became very apparent. By the conclusion of the tour I had already sent in my paperwork to attend the following semester.…
Rutgers University possesses the ability to both educate me academically and culturally to the world around. Growing up as a latino first generation child has made me feel like I am part of two worlds . I am very proud of my ethnicity and my culture. I am very grateful for my parents because they have overcome many obstacles for me and my sister . Their difficulties due to their lack of college education have showed me the importance of a college background .…
They say the goal in life is to live the “American Dream” and I would say I am living it head first. It all started when the time in my life came to pick an Univeristy to attend, and boy am I ecstatic with my decision to attend West Virginia University. WVU opened so many doors for me; however, if it was not for my family, I would not be where I am today. I was very content with going to my local University and living at home because that was comfortable to me, but my family encourged me to find a new start.…
Everyone can narrow down their college choices to a few options, but what is so difficult is finding the perfect fit. That is what I have at Hope College, I have all of the tools to become the person I want to be, and reach all of my goals. Everyone on campus wants us students to be successful, which is very comforting to know as a college freshman. Through my time at Hope College, I will strive to reach my full potential as a college student, this will allow me to achieve my goals of getting into medical school, win a national championship in hockey, and know that I gave one-hundred percent effort to build for my future. I aspire to reach my full potential as a college student, to do this I want to take in all of the elements that makes Hope special.…
I was lead down a path toward this university for a reason. To be able to finalize and finish what I started here is now my dream and to take this Christ based education I have received out into the world to share with others. Sometimes it's not all about the facts that heal a person who is ill, sometimes it's about the relationships your able to create. I feel like my education here at Colorado Christian has taught me not only the facts but how to place them into relationships.…
When I interviewed with Mount Holyoke College, the Associate Director of the Frances Perkins Scholar program, Nichole Reynolds, shared with me, “Attending this school can be a transformative experience if you allow it to be.” The words that she spoke were the guiding force behind the ways in which I approached my junior year. The 2016-2017 school year has been the most transformative year of my academic life thus far. Indeed, I stepped out of my cocoon and forced myself to stretch; no matter how uncomfortable or the amount of fear that I felt, I pushed towards new experiences that helped to construct the person I was becoming. First, after much consideration, I officially declared my self-design major in Black Geographies with the support of my academic advising team.…
I would love to attend Archbishop Mitty High School because of all the wonderful things I experienced during 7th day, shadowing, and open house. From the start, I knew that Mitty was the school right for me. I have always felt very comfortable walking on campus because I know so many people, and I know how every staff member is so friendly and full of hospitality. On seventh grade day, I got to look around the school, try the lunches, and was told lots about Mitty by the wonderful and caring staff. I enjoyed the rush of Monarch Madness.…
I knew I wanted a place where I could expand my horizons, meet new people, and leave with a better understanding of the world and its cultures. Out of my top three college choices, the University of Toledo was the most diverse. The university is large enough to attract students from all over the nation and other countries, while maintaining the culture of Toledo itself. I am very interested in studying abroad, and the University of Toledo has wonderful programs for this. Most recently, the campus had International Week which was very fun and interesting.…
