Many students face financial or economical issues with attending college. Many student’s face the issue of having to pay for college and having to focus on school while paying for other financial responsibilities such as rent, utilities, car payments or bus fares and having to buy overpriced textbooks. The American college student has a lot to deal with nowadays when it comes to financial responsibilities, the ones who do get financial aid to help with their schooling often face having to pay back these tremendous loans once they're finished. As William Zinsser explains in his essay, the average college student must go into debt to accomplish their career goals and the going forward motion of success has negative implications of repayment of debt. (258) As Zinsser states in his quote he explains this observation of college students, “Today is not unusual for a student, even if he works part time at college and full time during the summer, to accrue $5000 in loans after four years- loans that he must start to repay within one year after graduation. Exhorted at commencement to go forth into the world, he is already behind as he goes forth.” (258) This backward motion when going forward is often the way a college student must go. In order to be successful one must be willing to accept the pressure of financial responsibilities when taking a loan. In Zinsser's essay he describes these pressures and demonstrates why these pressures are only the bumps in the road to their careers. Often we as college students focus on being the best we can be, making our parents proud and having to feel good enough in our own eyes, that we forget to focus on our own lives and how we will face many trials and tribulations on the road to success but every detour is just an unplanned turn we have to come back from.. Life's a journey we cannot control our destinies and neither can we “pre-plan” them as Zinner states and that's alright we can be successful and not everyone's journey is going to be the same (261). The path we take in college is our own and we need to follow our own goals and ambitions as we forge our paths to success. Be you, at the end of the day you have to live with the career you have chosen, you cannot live someone else’s life, only your
