Why Teach?
Teacher Name: Mrs. Carol Wagner School: Woodland Park Elementary School City & State: Sheridan, Wyoming Positive Characteristics: Mrs. Wagner had many positive characteristics, but I think one of her best qualities was finding and trying new ideas to make learning for elementary kids entertaining and enjoyable. She had this rewards system where it made kids want to finish their work and turn in their homework. Each homework was worth 10 Wagner Bucks and at the end of every month she would have an auction and her students could buy a variety of items with their Wagner Bucks. She took great steps in making sure her students were immersed in culture being German herself she had chose to learn the German language in the classroom. I remember being able to count up to ten in German and I thought that was the best. The class also celebrated many different holidays, we celebrated Mardi Gras, Chinese New Year, and enjoyed a German Christmas Lunch. But it was an after school and summer program that had me doubting this decision. It was the end of my junior year in high school and I was on the search for a summer job. I had always really enjoyed working with kids and when they were looking for para educators for the summer and I was sure I had found my niche. I bring this up because this job had made me realize what my strengths and weaknesses were when it came to teaching and interacting with the members of the program. Through the doubts however, I had learn to overcome my weaknesses and I had turned this job into a learning experience. I ended up spending three consecutive years at the summer program and feel very confident in continuing my education to become a teacher. I will discuss why I want to be a teacher, two good teaching characteristics of mine, and one characteristic I need to improve
