According to Brandeis D. Louis, “The best of wages will not compensate for excessively long working hours which undermine health.” Nursing is one of the most exciting and desirable jobs in the world today for it is globally known as having an outstanding income and considerable advantages. However, long working shift hours in nursing healthcare is an important issue because it involves the safety of both patients and healthcare workers; nevertheless, nurses are commonly required to work more extended hours. Working longer than they expected is undesirable because it can affect the quality of care the nurses will deliver to the patients and put their health at risk, for example, it leads to suffering from backpain or chronic pain, leg pain, shoulder pain, …show more content…
The major benefit that nurses tend to accept working more than their required period is of course for better remuneration. For instance, extra cash is one of the main instinct for nurses working extra hours because nurses prefer to work more than their regulated hours to earn additional cash, and for them to get enough money to meet their daily needs. Compensation is one of the benefits for nurses working long hours because under the federal law workers who work extra hours are supposed to be compensated understanding that they have worked more than their required hours. Likewise, documentation tasks tend to be one of the benefits for nurses working long hours because it gives nurses the adequate time to finish their indispensable tasks such as, to be available in the healthcare or hospital during emergency casualties and help to attend to the patients’ immediate care. Besides, nurses getting their work done on time is one of the benefits since most nurses want to get their work activity done on time to organize other things like family and so
