Contract - exercise - postal rule
A letter exercising an option to buy a house was lost in the post. The claimant attempted to argue it had been validly delivered under postal rule

Postal rule will not apply if:
1. Offer states that the acceptance must "reach me", or something along the lines
Or if
2. The Application of the postal rule would cause "manigest inconvenience or absurdity"
Counter offer
An offer was made to sell a farm. The claimant made a lower couter-offer which was rejected.
The claimant then purported to accept the original offer although it was not open for him to do so

1. A counter offer exstinguishes the original offer
2. Acceptance must be a mirror image of the original offer
Invitation to treat
Partiridge v Crittenden [1968]
A man placed an advertisement offering wild birds for sale. It was an offence to offer such birds for sale. His conviction was squashed on the basis that this was an invitation to treat
