are dominant characteristics always more frequent in a population than recessive characteristics? why or why not?
No. If you think of some of the dominant humanphenotypes, you'll notice they are uncommon. Examples are widow's peak, cheekdimples, cleft chin, and 6 fingers/toes. In this example that recessivecharacteristics are more frequent is the gene for having 6 fingers is dominantto the trait for having 5 fingers, but most people have 5 fingers. However, very few people do have 6 fingers. Therefore, many more people possess bothrecessive traits for the number of fingers they have. (natural selection)
