Alliteration
Definition: Alliteration is the repetition of consonant sounds at the start of a word.
Example: The sun sizzled softly in the afternoon.
Assonance
Definition: Assonance is the repetition of a vowel sound. It is different from rhyme as it does not need to be at the end of each line.
Example: The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plains.
Onomatopoeia
Definition: onomatopoeia is a word that imitates or suggests the source of the sound that it describes.
Example: All you could hear was the buzzing of the fly and then squish! Dad squashed the fly.
