Professional Gain:

How did this presentation contribute to my professional growth?
This presentation inspired me to think creatively about routine classroom activities. It also reinforced that launching assignments with examples is a great way to get buy-in from students.
Applications:

How can I transfer the information gained from this presentation to my own classroom?
(1) Third grader study the 50 states. I could have them create a character who will travel the country and have them track their character's journey using Google Maps and Google Earth.
(2) Fourth graders study the continents and countries of the world. I could have them do a similar project as 3rd grade, on a larger scale.
(3) Sixth graders study world geography. They can develop characters who travel the world, show their journeys using Google Maps and Google Earth, and keep on-line journals of their characters' adventures around the world.
