We have added the ability to restrict access to your flashcards! When creating or editing the properties of your card set choose “restrict access” in the privacy selector. You will then be able to add and remove user’s to the restricted access list from the card set properties page. Give it a try and let us know if you encounter any problems.

You can now exclude users and tags from your search phrases. -user:sensei will show you results but nothing from sensei. -tag:math will assure you that no flashcards tagged with “math” are shown.

A new search option has been added for filtering by user name. A search for user:sensei tag:organic return search results for flashcards from the flashcard exchange user sensei that have been tagged with “organic”. All other search options can be used in conjunction with this new option. Enjoy!

Google has noticed unusual traffic from flashcardexchange.com and has disabled our access to spreadsheet import and export. We are working to fix this situation as quickly as possible.

A trash option has been added to make it easier to remove flashcards from your card list. To quickly delete card sets:

  1. Click on “My Flashcards” from the My Stuff menu.
  2. Check the box next to the card sets you want to delete.
  3. In the drop down box at the bottom of the page select “Move to Trash”

Click the trash button at the top to view card sets that have been moved to the trash. Card sets can be permanently deleted from the trash using the same drop down list at the bottom.

We have updated the site search! New features include:

  1. sort by best match or most recent card sets.
  2. phrase searching
  3. boolean searching
  4. grouping and filtering (exclude terms)

You can now export flashcards from flashcard exchange to an existing or new google spreadsheets! This works great for getting data to MS Excel or other applications. This feature is for full members.

Google Spreadsheet Export Process
  1. Find the card set you want to export from flashcardexchange.com.
  2. From the card set home page, just under the header you will a row of buttons. Click Export and choose Export to a Google Spreadsheet.
  3. You will be asked to log in to your google account and authorize flashcardexchange.com.
  4. When shown a list of your spreadsheets choose the spreadsheet and worksheet you want to export to, or choose to export to a new spreadsheet (recommended).
  5. Click the export button.

We’ve implemented the ability to import flashcards directly from a google spreadsheet! This should streamline the import process for many people and help with some of those pesky formatting and character problems. We also now recommend that MS Excel imports first be imported into a Google Spreadsheet.

Google Spreadsheet Import Process
  1. Log in to your google account and type in your flashcard data. The spreadsheet must contain 2 or 3 columns. The first row should have the words ‘Question’, ‘Answer’, and ‘Side 3’ in the first three columns.
  2. Create a card set at flashcardexchange.com
  3. After creating a card set you will be shown the new card page.
  4. Just under the header you will a row of buttons. Click import list and choose Import from Google Spreadsheet.
  5. You will be asked to log in to your google account and authorize flashcardexchange.com to access your spreadsheet data.
  6. When shown a list of your spreadsheets choose the spreadsheet and worksheet you want to import.
  7. Click the import button.

Hi Everyone! It has been a while since we updated the Flashcard Exchange news but that does not mean we have been idle! Bug fixes, enhancements and infrastructure updates have been going on at full speed.

The latest exciting news is that we have made our API public and enhanced it to provide two way communication with third party applications. If you are an application developer please check out the documentation and send us an email to request your application key(s).
