Cinema of France

The raw logistics of projecting moving images was pursued all over the world, but cinema was born in France. The world’s first screening of a motion picture was in the Grand Cafe in Paris, on December 28th, 1895. It was a series of ten films made by the brothers Auguste and Louis Lumiere, including their first ever film, Sortie des Usines Lumière à Lyon (Workers Leaving the Lumiere Factory). This was done with Léon Bouly 's cinématographe device, the rights to which had been purchased by the Lumiere brothers.
