Francisco. Good news! Summer school is cancelled for the day! Francisco’s Soccer Rule #xx: Things that Don’t Go Together Fill in the Blank Test: Q: Face is to soccer ball as summer is to ___. (A: school) I am excited to come home early from summer school, but when I arrive at the Shaw house, Tommy isn’t there. I look everywhere for him. In the trees. In the attic. In Mrs. Quindley’s house next door, which surprises her very many because I didn’t “knock” or “ring the bell” and “just busted in like a criminal oh lordy lordy hand me that towel.” While Mrs. Quindley talks to the police who have arrived in very festive cars with flashing lights, explaining about how she “panicked” and “freaked” because she was “in the bath” and she “wouldn’t press charges this time,” my phone buzzed. It was Uncle Tito from Planet Narkisso. Uncle Tito does not speak Earth English, so I will translate our conversation: Me: Uncle Tito! It is me, Francisco! Your one and only nephew in all the worlds! UT: Yes. I know. I called you, Cisco. Remember? How are things going on Planet Earth? Me: Good. Mrs. Quindley is not pressing charges, this time. UT: That is good news, Cisco. Listen, do you want to come home? I am very lonely without you here. Me: Of course I want to come home, Uncle Tito. But how is the problem with the cash money that you owe the Very Big Man? I do not want to have my legs or arms or nose broken. It is the summer of the Worlds Cup and I need to be in my best shape ever.…
