    Lars Movie Psychology

Lars showed signs of delusional disorder for a while; he lived in his brother’s garage, which could count for his social isolation. He did not go to parties or participate in activities with other people. However, he managed to hold a somewhat normal life; he had a job and he regularly attended church (Gillespie, 2007). His delusion with Bianca lasted for quite some time, so the time frame would have been included with the criteria in Diagnostic and Statistical Manuel of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (American, 2013). Overall, Lars’ behavior was not overall weird or strange, he looked normal to society, before Bianca. Even though, I read that these delusions are usually brief, I was surprised that he eventually killed off Bianca. I thought it was pretty strange, considering how much he seemed to love her. It is pretty fascinating to think that his mind told him, to come up with a fake disease and the death of Bianca. I would classify him as having Erotomanic type of delusion because he bought Bianca on the internet and he created the delusion that she was in love with him. Although it was quite interesting that he wanted to marry Bianca, but in his mind,…

feel, but cannot express to people because we are scared to be judged, not taken seriously, trusted or laughed at. It exists in everyone and some may choose to hide it and others may express it the way they please, regardless of being judged. Antigone was my favorite reading from this class so far. It relates to the overall theme of the class because the characters own ideas drive them insane causing them to become mad. One can infer that Creon is considered to be mad because he is very irrational, did not take anyone else’s feelings into account when he drove three people to ultimately their graves. Many considered Antigone to be mad because she is does not conform to social expectations for women (or men). She is deviant because…

At the beginning of the scene Othello is forced to choose a lieutenant for himself. Othello choosing Cassio as his lieutenant did not make Iago vey happy. Iago thought that he should have been selected for lieutenant having the feeling he was the perfect man for the job as he stated, “In personal suit to make me his lieutenant, off-capp’d to him: and, by the faith of man, I know my price, I am worth no worse a place…” (I.i.10-12) This quote explains Iago’s belief on Othello’s new selection of…

Irony, it’s a strange thing isn’t it? Think about it, the exact definition of irony is: a state of affairs or event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result. In The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Liesel’s case, the irony of her obsession with stealing books, is that she didn’t even know how to read to begin with. It was mentioned in the beginning of the book that she didn’t know how to read, because it states “ when he made her point out any words she…
