    Red Wolves The Red wolf, scientifically known as Canis rufus, is a close relative to the more commonly known, Grey wolf. The Grey wolf is the one typically used in fairy tales while the Red wolf is not. The Red wolf has a cinnamon or tawny red coat with some grey and black markings. Their back tends to be darker and their tails tend to have a black tip. Red wolves are smaller than their close relatives, the grey wolf, but have longer legs and shorter fur. Full grown Red wolves measure around 4 to 5 feet in length from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail, with their tails measuring around a foot long.
