To say the least, Truman, compared to the others, is always on his toes. Those around him act like nothing is wrong while Truman continues to rage. This brings us to the claim dealing with simulation versus simulacrum. Simulation is defined as “the action or practice of simulating, with an intent to deceive,” whereas simulacrum is “a material image, made as a representation of some deity, person, or thing” (Sandoz). In simpler terms, simulacra can be seen as something fake while simulation is something that is real. The producer of the film “work[ed] from the idea of Seahaven as a ‘simulacrum’, it becomes quite obvious that the filmmakers behind “The Truman Show” were very interested in the nature of simulation and it’s [sic] effects on Truman, the actors who play his family and friends, the TV show’s audience, and us – the film’s audience” (Cowles 4) are given the opportunity to see the “real” and “fake” world of Truman. The actors have to put on a persona acting like someone they are not for a long period of time.
