FY16P1 Academy: Promoted participation and good morale throughout the group during my first few weeks at Apple. Due to my strong technical background, I was able to coach my peers in areas that are of my expertise. This included; iOS, Mac hints, and shortcuts. Bomgar screen sharing sessions with peers to help them fully understand the program. This yielded a great result of a high amount of graduates under Amber Duke, in addition, more advisors left Academy prepared for the technology world…
The essay by Haney brings to light many attributes that I want to address. Is she a professional? Does Haney exemplify effective teaching practices? Lastly, what is one question that I want to ask Haney? These topics are all areas that I will explore in more detail. Haney raises some good points and like most of us, appears to be in education for all of the right reasons. Haney is the true professional in so many ways. She is passionate about her work and her teaching goes beyond the walls…
Shevaun was administered the MASI-R Oral Reading Fluency Measure test to check his oral reading fluency level. The results can be used to extend the academic rigor of instructional strategies or to adjust prior instruction to meet Shevaun’s need. The test consists of three student passages and three teacher passages for the teacher to score. All three readings were administered on the same day, and the median score was calculated. He was given one minute to complete each passage. I read the…
Our text discusses the principle of least intervention to aid in effective classroom behavioral management in the simplest and least disruptive way. There are ways to manage classroom misbehaviors with students that would be effective and promote positive relationships with students as well. In the specific instances mentioned above, for students chewing gum, doodling, reading comic books, not staying in their seat, I would address each of these differently. With gum chewing, I would ask the…
Linking Formative Assessment to the Principles of Assessment in WA Schools Introduction Assessment is the process of gathering and interpreting evidence to make informed judgments about students learning. It is the crucial link between learning outcomes, content, teaching and learning activities. Assessment allows teachers to determine what stage students are in at their learning, where they need to go, and the best way in which to get there. Assessment can be both a formative and summative…
The idea of understanding that certain cultures like (African American) and (Latino/a) can communicate in a way that is understandable and relatable for them does not surprise me at all. As a teacher, I can see what Danny Martinez (2015) is talking about in his observations. Teenagers and youth in general have always communicated in ways that sometimes adults can’t understand and therefore they question the validity of the language that is being used. However, this language is functional and…
To me diversity goes far beyond just race, gender, and age. Diversity means there is a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, life experiences, and thoughts/ideas. Diversity means there is an opportunity to grow, learn, and for success. It is an opportunity to grow because you are around people with whom you don't share many similarities, and this means that you will try to get to know them, thus expanding your view of things when you hear how others see things through their eyes. Diversity is an…
The procedure that I implemented affects whole class student learning because I am able to more efficiently use my time. Instead of taking time out of my day to get the Absent Folder, find all of the work that belongs in the folder, and place it on the student’s desk, I can spend time teaching students. Since all of the absent student’s work is in one place, when the student returns, he is able to look through the work and ask questions when I am free, thus freeing up my time to spend teaching…
Making sure the most accurate information regarding student needs and instructional strategies is bestowed upon the classroom teacher is the ultimate goal of data-driven decision making. Dr. Scott McLeod emphasized the importance of using a variety of assessment data and student indicators to determine the academic achievement for students (2005). At Mandarin Oaks Elementary, data from the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) is used to determine school grades and assists with driving the school…
In the article “How Google, Wikipedia Have Changed Our Lives-For Better and Worse”. Jennifer Woodard Maderazo Introduces How the internet has changed the learning aspect of students in school. It Inflicts how back then when modern technology wasn’t prevalent, students had to use books to research the questions they worked on. As of now in current times more students tend to use the internet as a more useful source than going to a library and taking the time to source/research the information.…
