3 Gorges Dam Do the positive benefits outweigh the negative effects? There are many sides and opinions on the whether or not the Three Gorges Dam has a more positive or negative impact on the country. In my opinion, the Three Gorges Dam, built in China, has a negative impact on the nation. This dam is very powerful in ways that it threatens many animals, makes China’s terrible droughts even worse, and it causes damage and removal of important monument and statues in China. In document 3, it states “The Three Gorges Dam project threatens may endangered species that are native to the Yangtze River.” Then, it later in document 3, it states, “These species may soon be extinct, and the Three Gorges Dam will accelerate their decline due to it's effects on the Yangtze River and lakes connected to it.” This means that the dam is increasing the number of animals dying, and it's threatening species. There are many native and indigenous plants and animals that use the Yangtze River to survive, and this dam may be putting these species to extinction. Another problem that the Three Gorges Dam causes is how it causes some of China’s worst droughts to be even more powerful and harmful. In document 1, it states, “Hong is one of millions in China affected by the worst drought to hit China since 1961.”...”Along with other farmers and environmentalists, she points to The Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydropower project as a resource nightmare that was exacerbated [worsened] the…
