    In the short story, Jock Culture , Robert Lipsyte discusses his interview with the Columbia University crew coach, Bill Stowe and the difference of what he called “jokes” and pukes”. He describes the jokes as “brave, manly, ambitious, focused, patriotic, and goal-driven” people and the “pukes” as “wolly, distractible, girlish, and handicapped” (Lipsyte, 305).
