Though it may sound absurd, the idea that the art one creates could be used as a weapon against him later on could clearly limit the creative expression of many. For people who grow up in places where they are constantly exposed to crime and violence as a reality of daily living, singing or rapping about their experiences or even just their thoughts on what is going on could be considered a healthy, viable way. For example there was a widely publicized case against a rapper from Baton Rouge, Louisiana named Torrence Hatch aka Lil Bossie, where the judge allowed his lyrics to be used to try and convict him, as well as several co-defendants, of several murders along with a slew of other charges. Hatch was accused of hiring a hitman to kill someone, yet the only evidence they had was the admission of his lyrics and the word of a supposed hitman that, at the time of the murder, Hatch had never met. The lyrics were from a song entitled ‘187’ which is a code police use over the radio to indicate a murder, a very common term used in rap songs and names of. The song includes lines such as, “Any *igga who ever tried to play me, they dead now…cross the line he gone murk you he dead now…” Hatch was later found not guilty, one reason was that the only solid evidence…
