appreciation for the sounds, pronunciation, and musicality of the language. However, I did find the language she used and the tempo of the song challenging, and found I couldn’t really pick out enough words to try to get a feeling of what the song was about. It will be interesting to go back to the song at the end of the course and see if I can glean additional understanding. The second artist I looked at is a French artist named Camille Dalmais. She performs using just her first name, Camille. Born in 1978 in Paris, she is known for both pushing the envelope of her music as well as being a beloved household name in France. I picked a song from her 2005 album Le Fil. This particular album won 2005 album of the year at Victoires de la Musique awards, which is much like France’s Juno awards. I also found it interesting that the artist left a random B note thread throughout the entire album, which translated is titled “the thread.” I think that sort of clever play on both words and music is fantastic, and has obviously led to her music being beloved and culturally relevant. After listening to the album, my favourite song is Pâle septembre. I really enjoyed this song because it is much slower moving in comparison to the Coeur de Pirate song; which allowed me to really focus on the words she was singing. I found I could actually pick out some of the words as she worked through the various seasons in each verse. The song it’s self also seemed to be composed of…

I chose to discuss how Caroline Shaw’s Passacaglia piece exhibits characteristics from Edgard Varese’s piece even though the composers had different performance mediums. Throughout Shaw’s piece, you can hear a few characteristics of e experimentation. Shaw’s piece does not use a lot of synthesizers and is not a dramatic as Varese’s Poeme Electronique. Shaw uses some electronic sounds and characteristics of experiments within her piece, but her main sound was the use of whispers, shouts, and…

Just like any thing else in the world starting out small and getting bigger Festival Acadiens et Créole did just that. In 1974 the first event that took place to get the celebration of Cajun Créole culture rolling was the Festival de Musique that was a one-day event that took place to honor Cajun or Zydeoc music. Secondly the Bayou Food Festival was moved to allow the celebration or Cajun cuisine and Cajun music to be combined. The last piece of the puzzle that makes all three of these…
