“For weeks leading up to Christmas, people like to stroll the streets to buy many nice things nativity: figurines, small toys, and seasonal foods. The season does not even begin till December 7 or 8. They call this day La Purisima, which celebrates the Virgin Mary. Families build altars in the entrance of the front door, and they leave the door wide open so that others may see their altar. Many are welcomed to come and worship in front of the altar. During December, children carry colorful bouquets or tropical flowers to the altar of the Virgin where they sing carols. On Christmas Eve, church bells beeckon the people to Midnight Mass and after the service they stand in a line to kiss the image of the Christ Child in the manger. When they get home from the service, they open their presents that they had been given to by Baby Jesus.” As you can see through these three different countries that each celebrates differently. There are some similarities I think within each country, but they all celebrate in a different way. I like the idea of celebrating different. If there was no variety, then everything would be boring and plain. We all have our own different beliefs, but we know that Christmas is the time to celebrate of Jesus’ first coming for…

The white now-deformed cylinder clung to the carved stick as it melted. Before it could fall to its hot, fire-induced death, I whisked the stick away and carefully scraped the marshmallow onto the graham cracker square laden with delicious chocolate. As I delicately placed the camping creation onto my lips, the background noise of the wind and not-so-spooky stories calmed me as I watched the flames lick at the logs, slowly transforming them into ashes and embers. Everything was too perfect. I…

Hello, this is my project on the country of the Dominican Republic. During December, they celebrate Christmas, like we do, but Christmas doesn’t end until January 6th, with the arrival of the three kings. A tradition in the Republic, is an Aguinaldos; an informal party at home. The people at the party sing traditional Christmas songs and eat Christmas foods, such as Puerco asado. People also carol there, and sometimes, families give the carolers a drink called jengibre. Some Dominicans celebrate…

This is a piece of artwork that I drew and colored at the beginning of last semester. The assignment was to make a symmetrical circle of your zodiac sign. My sign is a Sagittarius so I based the theme around Christmas. Sagittarius are known as an encouraging and positive person. Christmas is a great time of year full of laughter and joy. First, I started off designing my arrow and making the lines straight. The arrow symbolized a Christmas tree and I used the Christmas colors red and green,…
