OBJECTIVE: The pump is made of pendulum, two-leg lever and cylinder with the piston which pumps the water. Oscillation of the pendulum is maintained by periodical action of the human arm. Oscillation period of the pendulum is twice bigger than the period of the lever oscillation. Piston of the pump has reverse effect on the lever and damps its oscillation. Damping of the lever motion causes damping of the pendulum, but the work of the force damping the pendulum is less than the work of the forces which damp the lever. Equilibrium position of the lever is horizontal, and the equilibrium position of the pendulum is vertical. Oscillation of the lever and the pendulum take place in the same plane, vertical in reference to the ground. Physical model…

Aim Simple Pendulum Experiment The aim of the experiment was to determine the effects of two factors (the length of a pendulum and the hanging mass of a pendulum) on the period of oscillation of the simple pendulum and to determine the value of g, the acceleration due to gravity. Apparatus Retort stand String Meter ruler Table Standard hex nuts (as suspended mass) Stopwatch Labelled Diagram Illustrating setup Method Experiment A: The simple pendulum was assembled using a retort stand,…

Arctic Oscillation Weather Anomaly The Arctic Oscillation (AO) is a two-phase climate pattern circulating in the Artic region and the mid-latitude regions of Earth. This oscillation pattern is the second largest on Earth, with the El Niño/La Niña cycle being the largest. While these weather patterns are a normal part of the Earth’s climate system, scientists continually monitor fluctuations in the AO to determine its natural state versus the man-made impact through global warming. The…

estimated sixteen percent of the corals on reefs globally (Global Coral Bleaching). “This mass bleaching coincided with the highest sea surface temperatures ever recorded,” presenting unmistakable evidence that mass bleaching was due largely in part by human activities (Veron). The event that occurred during the years of 2001/02 was also notorious for the sheer scope of widespread bleaching that took place across the globe. It was also during this event that “it had become clear that there was a…

between the time period of a simple pendulum (oscillation) and the effective length (total length) of the simple pendulum. The three variables in Experiment-1 Simple pendulum: Independent variable: The independent variable in this experiment is the length of the string of the pendulum that could be changed. Dependent variable: The dependent variable is the time period for one oscillation. Constant/ Control measures: The constants considered in this experiment are: The mass, shape, size and…

This paper illustrates how oscillations can affect different hormones and specifically focuses on how oscillations of glucocorticoid hormones play a vital role in the circadian activity of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. To understand this concept, it is important to know what oscillations are and how they are impactful. It is widely accepted that all atoms oscillate or move. This occurs both in our environment and in our own bodies. Dynamic movement is actually necessary for us to…

Reflection High-Energy Electron Refraction Intensity Oscillations Reflection high-energy electron refraction (RHEED) has been used as a surface probe for in situ observation of monolayer growth using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) because of its high surface sensitivity and a near grazing incidence. It utilizes diffraction of electrons by surface atoms[1] and the RHEED intensity oscillation can convey morphological information of the growth surface if the intensity oscillation pattern is properly…
